American Airlines Center

The American Airlines Center is one of the best arenas in the US for taking in a basketball (or Hockey) game. It is home to the Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas Stars, as well as the Arena Football League’s Dallas Desperados. it is located at 2500 Victory lane and it broke ground i September of 1999. The Center opened on July 27 of 2001, and according to The Guinness Book of World Records, the opening was the largest ribbon cutting ceremony of all time. The American Airlines Center replaced the old Reunion Arena. It cost American Airlines $195 million for the naming rights to the stadium. (American Airlines is headquartered in Forth Worth Texas). It cost $420 million to build it, and can hold up to 18,584 for hockey and up to 21,041 Mavs ticket holders for basketball games. The first event at the AA Center was a concert by the Eagles. The architecture firm David M. Schwarz Architectural Services designed the American Airlines Center.

Due to its appearance in addition to the fact that the stadium is named after American Airlines, it is often called “the hangar.” Other Mavs and Stars fans call it the A-A-C. The American Airlines Center has won a number of awards since it first opened. Some of them are the Excellence in Construction Award of Merit, 2007 by the American Builders and Contractors of North Texas, the Dallas Observer’s Best Sports Venue in 2007, the “Slam Dunk Award” from the Harlem Globetrotters, the Concert Venue of the Year by Pollstar, the Engineering Excellence Award by the Associated General Contractors of America, Dallas chapter, the Best New Major Concert Venue by Pollstar and many more.
